Hello...I'm Mr. Michael Newcomer and thanks for visiting the Van Buren Elementary webpage!
I taught for Van Buren Elementary for 11 years and had the pleasure and opportunity to teach 5th grade language arts and social studies prior to taking over as principal for the 2012-2013 school year.
My passion is getting to work with all the different students, teachers, parents, and community members to make VB a better school! I believe that every student can learn and make a difference in the community we live in! Nothing brings me greater joy than seeing a student and teacher learn together and form a bond to do amazing things! Not only are we focused on academics but we want to focus on the whole student and live by the motto of "Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe...Be A Black Knight!"
I graduated from Asbury University (a small private university in Wilmore, KY) with a degree in elementary education and later gained my Master’s in education with an emphasis in school administration from University of Findlay. Prior to taking over as principal I served as an assistant coach for Varsity Track and Field and was the head coach for 2 seasons (2011-2013) and also helped as a volunteer coach for Cross Country. Outside of school I enjoy fishing, running, and spending time with friends and family and cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes!
I am here as a resource and have an open door policy and hope you can visit us sometime soon to see the amazing things that our students and staff are capable of accomplishing...Go Knights!
