Knight Insight with Mrs. Maureen Sampson

Maureen Sampson has earned the Ohio Middle Level Association (OMLA) Northwest Regional Award for Best Middle Level Practices. In addition to teaching eighth grade science and the middle school Medical Detectives class, she also teaches high school Anatomy & Physiology.

Currently in her sixth year of teaching at Van Buren, Sampson was surprised when she earned the award, but middle school principal Jennifer Barrett, who nominated her, said, “Maureen is an exceptional educator who goes above and beyond in fostering a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment for her eighth graders and high school students. This award is a well-deserved recognition of her hard work, dedication, and lasting impact she makes on each student’s life.”

Appreciative of receiving the award, Sampson said, “As a Black Knight, I am constantly inspired by the wonderful educators around me. Any of my teammates could have been nominated for this award, so I feel extremely honored to have been nominated and chosen. I strive to make sure our students are challenged but supported every day. I really appreciate that this is seen and valued here at VB.”

Sampson CollageSampson, originally from Dayton, attended Duquesne University and was a member of the rowing team while earning her Bachelor of Science in Biology.  She then earned both her Adolescent/Young Adult Integrated Science licensure and Master of Arts in Education at the University of Findlay .

While it is important for Sampson to be recognized for her excellence in the classroom, what is more important is that she will be having a positive impact on Van Buren students for many years to come.
