Van Buren Middle School
eNews - September 2020
Thanks to all of our families for their patience and input as we’re getting the new school year rolling. We’ve been able to identify some unique opportunities during this time - we’re thrilled to see our students’ (masked) faces each day!
OneView Form Updates
Each fall, we ask parents to update and complete a few different electronic forms using OneView. At this point, we are still missing forms from a number of families. Cassie Schaffer has emailed those parents - please take care of this as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Farewell Mrs. Sines!
Mrs. Leigh Sines, our sixth grade math and social studies teacher will be moving to the Pittsburgh area soon as her husband is being relocated for his job. Many thanks to Leigh for her many contributions to VBMS! Mr. Hunter Weis will be finishing the year for Mrs. Sines. Hunter isn’t a stranger to us as he was a student-teacher here at VBMS last year.
Pandemic School Lunch Waiver
All Van Buren students are eligible to receive free school lunches (a regular lunch) as a result of the federal school lunch program waiver made possible through the CARES act. Additionally, any students purchasing a regular school lunch since the start of the school year will have that lunch cost refunded to their lunch account in the coming weeks.
School Pictures
School portraits will be taken October 20 and 21. Ordering information will be disseminated closer to the picture days.
On-campus students:
Group A - Tuesday, October 20, 2020
Group B - Wednesday, October 21, 2020
VLA students: October 20 or 21 (12:00pm-2:00pm) - come to the office either day during that time frame
Student Attendance
- On-Campus Days: Attendance works the same as always - if a student will not be at school, we require parent contact by 8:30am the day of the absence with the student’s name and reason for absence.
- We ask that parents/guardians try to avoid on-campus days when scheduling appointments. These face-to-face (or mask-to-mask) instruction days are very important!
- Online Days: During online days, students are expected to log in to Schoology at least once each online day as we have to track student “attendance” per state mandate. There is no required time. As students fail to login, we will address those “absences” on an individual basis.
- VLA: Students should log in to the VLA platform regularly. As students fail to login, we will address those “absences” on an individual basis.
Using PaySchools for Lunches and School Fees
Van Buren Schools is now using PaySchools to accommodate online payments for our school lunches and fees. If you used PayForIt in the past for lunches, you can login here to migrate your account to PaySchools. If you never used PayForIt in the past, create a PaySchools account here. Note: Lunches and fees can still be paid for by bringing in a check or cash.
